I know this is so basic of me to say but I do like Taylor's Swift's music, though she's not my favorite artist. But I will admit that her country pop style is typically the kind of country music I listen to.
‘Tim McGraw’ is from her first album and it's a good song. Not my favorite, but not her worst. There's nothing too spectacular about this song in particular. The musical accompaniment doesn't surprise me at all. It's a very slow, mellow song. Of course, there is some build up, but nothing that stands out. I think what makes the song special are the lyrics. The song tells the story of their relationship, in a very plain but poetic way. I'm aware that sounds a bit contradicting, but what I mean to say is that there are very little, if any, metaphors or analogies. Most of the lyrics tell exactly what she wants to say, but in a very flowery way.
I think the lyrics help categorize this song as country because the song itself has a pretty heavy pop influence. Another thing that makes it country is the signature Southern twang that can be heard when she sings.
Growing up my oldest brother loved Taylor Swift's music and so I grew up listening to her song. I really like how cute and sweet the lyrics are, and how she used metaphors. I really like how the instruments match the lyrics. I feel like if the instruments in the back were super loud or even a lot faster, they wouldn't match with the whole love song feel that this song gives off. This isn't the first song I think of when I think of early Taylor Swift, but I agree that it is a good song.
ReplyDeleteI grew up listening to so much Taylor Swift and love her older songs so much. I like the simplicity of the lyrics and the instruments. I think it relates to most country songs, but she is still original enough to be a staple in her career. I like that this song is straightforward and doesn't have a deep hidden meaning.
